Well there’s a new kid in town and it goes by the name of Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. With the Atlantis being a resort standard for years, it’s time for something fresh on this tiny island and the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar does not disappoint. Opening in the Spring of 2017, this brand new resort provides the perfect backdrop for either business or a much needed getaway (the latter being the reason I was there). Once you step foot on the property, you immediately feel relaxed.
Grand Hyatt really considers every single detail. The hallways leading to the guestrooms provide the perfect tropical touch in shades of crisp white, cobalt blue and gold and with every inhale of sunscreen and saltwater in the air, you can’t help but to say, “it smells like vacation!” And the staff at Grand Hyatt make sure you feel like that at every single minute.
While you could very easily just sit on the patio and order room service from your in-room tablet all day, you cannot miss how fabulous this property is. It is massive and I found myself getting lost the first few days, both inside and out.
Now, I am no gambler but the crystal chandeliers and decor of the casino seem as grande as any in Monte Carlo. Any and everything you could possibly want to play is available. And while you sit back and roll the dice, you can admire the view of the palm trees and water just steps away. If shopping is your thing, take your casino winnings to dozens of the finest stores at the Grand Hyatt including Rolex, Hublot and Chopard.
You could spend your entire stay exploring inside but once you step outside you are immediately transported to a utopia. With six pools, it’s difficult to decide where you will spend hours soaking in the sun. And oh yeah, you’ve got the beach too! My favorite pool had a grotto and swim-up aquarium filled with sea turtles and nurse sharks. I took several naps by that pool and if you forget your sunblock, no worries, they have endless for your complimentary use.
Should you need a little poolside nosh there are plenty of restaurants and drink shacks outside to fulfill your every desire. The Palms, however, is not to be missed. The head chef is the nicest person and prepares the best dishes you will probably ever taste. You must try the lobster grilled cheese! Chef uses about 5 different cheeses and makes a béchamel sauce. He then adds in about 8 ounces of lobster. Add butter, perfectly grilled bread and a side of waffle fries and you have what dreams are made of and what your mouth will water for long after you return home.
How can I forget The Sanctuary?!? A place to learn about aquatic life indigenous to the Bahamas. At a few times throughout the day you can watch the animals being fed and even get to pet a nurse shark and hold a stingray.
From the tennis courts to the ESPA spa to the free water activities, around every corner is a surprise. You can do everything or nothing if that’s what you choose. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is amazing and this new property is a must visit while in the Bahamas!
